Hace 5 días · In 1234 Hugh received the rape while still a minor, and at his death without issue in 1243 it passed to his nephew John FitzAlan, then in the king's wardship, Geoffrey of Langley and Henry le Breton being granted the keeping.
This right was confirmed in 1253, after an inquiry at which the jurors reported that the ancestors of John FitzAlan had always had custody of the abbey during vacancies, that licence to elect a new abbot was sought from them, and that they confirmed elections, the king acting only during minorities.
