I feel like Trebizond wouldn't have much choice in the matter by 1230, but Nicaea almost certainly would not just sit by and let this happen. Holding the City is always going to be hard when the enemy is close to the opposite shoreline, and Nicaea is ruled by the incredibly competent John III Vataztes who also tried his hand at laying siege to the City.
