    Hace 1 día · Shustoke escheated to the overlord Roger de Mowbray, a minor, who in 1296 became the first Lord Mowbray, and was succeeded in 1297 by his young son John. John was captured at Borough-bridge when fighting against Edward II, was hanged in March 1322, and his estates were forfeit.

Shortly before his death, however, in 1361, John de Mowbray settled the manor on himself and his wife Elizabeth for life, with remainder to John his son and heir.

    Hace 5 días · Heir to the Honour of Mowbray, Roger de Mowbray was a prominent Anglo-Norman baron who played major roles in royal politics during the reigns of King Stephen and Henry II. He was a participant in the Second Crusade, and is recorded as having fought alongside Hugh de Beauchamp at the Battle of Hattin in 1187.
