Hace 3 días · In 1637 Lichfield was assessed at £150, with another £10 for the Close; Stafford was assessed at £30. Edward VI was in Lichfield on 23 September 1547, when he evidently visited the cathedral. Elizabeth I was at Lichfield in 1575, arriving from Kenilworth on 27 July.
Hace 1 día · Lichfield was incorporated by a charter of Edward VI granted in 1548. It was to be governed by two bailiffs, chosen annually on St. James's day (25 July), and 24 burgesses or brethren. Later the same year Bishop Sampson granted the manor of Lichfield to the corporation for a fee farm rent of £50.
Hace 2 días · Unable to return to Lichfield Grammar School, Johnson enrolled at the King Edward VI grammar school at Stourbridge. As the school was located near Pedmore, Johnson was able to spend more time with the Fords, and he began to write poems and verse translations.
Hace 1 día · The cathedral established by St. Chad, bishop 669–72, was presumably the church dedicated to St. Mary near which he was buried. In 700 his remains were transferred to a funerary church, apparently dedicated to St. Peter. (fn. 2) The two churches probably stood near each other.
