Actually the Maltese Cross doesn’t seem to have been stolen by Nazies. The symbol you are probably referring to is the iron cross, which while similar is in the end not the same. The Iron cross has smoother edges and is thicker in the middle. Both are logos of crusader organisations so the similarity makes sense.
