Fauconberg had at first occupied a house on the north side of the square, but he lived at No. 20 from at least 1683 until his death in 1700.

He served as a Member of Parliament and married Mary, the daughter of John Paulet, 2nd Marquess of Winchester. Their only child, Edward, would go on to become the 3rd Baron Cromwell.
