The younger Bruce thus had a strong claim to be king of an independent Scotland. However, Bruce also had a powerful rival: John Comyn, Lord of Badenoch, who had an equally compelling claim to the throne.

Hace 2 días · The Augustinian priory of Guisborough (or Gisburne, as the place was usually called in the Middle Ages) was founded by Robert de Brus, who endowed it on a magnificent scale. The Foundation Charter (fn. 1) records that he had founded the house by the counsel and advice of Pope Calixtus and Archbishop Thurstan.
