It took five years for Zevon to release the follow up The Envoy. This album. He signed to a new label and this album was considered his first “sober” album. He enlisted Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and Bill Berry of REM to be his backing band; this gets the album a harder sound then any other Zevon album to date.
