As far as I am aware, some abusers (often violent ones like him, allegedly), have untreated personality disorders. These can often be due to a lack of fully developed empathy centers in the brain. Because of this, they never experience full empathy and thus they often don't believe other people are altruistically empathetic and will sometimes assume others are "faking it" like they are.
