Hace 3 días · Sir William Capel. He was one of the victims of Empson and Dudley, the instruments of Henry VII.'s extortions. Thomas Kneseworth (Mayor 1505–6) and Sir Lawrence Aylmer (Mayor 1508) were also sufferers, all three being imprisoned and heavily fined. Capel Court derives its name from Sir W. Capel.
Hace 3 días · Soon after this the manor apparently passed to Sir William Capel who by his will dated 1515 left it to his son Sir Giles Capel. Courts were held in 1520 for the manor of 'Berwick Capel'.
Hace 3 días · By 1672 William Capel had a house in Prestbury which had five hearths, and it was perhaps the one said to be on the west side of the Burgage in 1679. During the 18th century the Capels continued to live in Prestbury and to buy land and houses in the parish. In 1737 13 people held estates as tenants of Christopher Capel.

He gave £1,000 for the rebuilding of St. Mary's Aldermary Church, where he was afterwards buried, but 'his bones were unkindly cast up' (Stow, i., 253). Two later Lord Mayors, Sir William Laxton (1544–5) and Sir Thomas Lodge (1562–3) were buried in his vault. 1504.
Hace 22 horas · The photo album which came to light in 2021 had images of just five of these: Capt Andrew Branfill, who bought Upminster Hall in 1686, his son Champion Branfill (1683-1738) and two portraits of his wife Mary née Braund (1693-1769), and possibly her parents Benjamin Braund (described as William) and his wife Ann nee Warner, making seven of the 23 that Wilson listed.
