Hace 4 días · Pulteney, who up to about 1741 had been, as a commoner, the most violent and popular patriot of his day, dwindled down, in 1742, into the Earl of Bath. Sir Robert Walpole, when forced, about the same time, to retire into the peerage, had laid this trap for his antagonist, who readily fell into it.
23 de may. de 2024 · Sir William Pulteney's eldest son and heir, another William, died in 1715. He was succeeded by his eldest son and more famous namesake, the statesman, who later became Earl of Bath.
Hace 3 días · In February 1662/3 the Earl of St. Albans offered to pay Grenville, recently created Earl of Bath, £500 for his interest in the field, instead of £3000 which Grenville had hoped for. The amount which Grenville eventually received is not known.
