Mary Howard also became Mary FitzRoy owing to her marriage to Henry FitzRoy, but other than that, there was no precedent for non-acknowledged bastards as well as their descendants to bear the surname FitzRoy. That said, I'm more curious where the middle name "FitzRoy" came from.
