  6. Hace 5 días · I, too, have read that there are 39 phonemes in Mandarin. I can find 38 phonemes, but I still am looking for the last one. If the final “-r” in Beijing Mandarin is included that would be the 39th phoneme, but I don’t believe that in standard Mandarin that sound is being included. More likely than not, that would be a 40th phoneme.
