Hace 2 días · Westminster Hall in the early 19th century, surmounted by its medieval hammerbeam roof. Westminster Hall is a large medieval great hall and the oldest surviving palace building. It was erected in 1097 for William II ("William Rufus"), at which point it was the largest hall in Europe.

On October 16, 1834, a great fire broke out in the palace complex that raged unchecked through the night.
