The part of Aldenham parish called KEMPROW (Keneprowe xiii cent.) was the site of a gallows erected by the abbots of Westminster and St. Albans.

The north side of the street has been rebuilt, but on the south Nos. 85 to 111 (odd), except 101 and 103 which have been demolished, survive between Chalton and Werrington Streets.
