I like Yo La Tengo but I'm not really hearing it. If I had to pick a likely influence that nobody ever mentions on this sub I'd say Marc Ribot. He's probably best known for playing with Tom Waits but his stuff with John Zorn's Masada / The Dreamers / Los Cubanos Postizos is amazing.
