So she accepted an apprenticeship at Harvard College Observatory in 1895. An increasing number of women were graduating with higher degrees at the time.

Henrietta Swan Leavitt was born July 4th in 1868. At 24 she graduated from Radcliffe (then called the Society for Collegiate Instruction of Women) and a year later she was hired as a “Computer” at the Harvard College Observatory.
