The new eruption is in a very remote area of the park several miles southwest of the summit caldera not accessible by car or by trail. Park rangers and USGS scientists are assessing the area. No safe viewing locations have been established at this time.

He was a founding member of Kalapana and one of Hawaii's greatest guitarists of his generation, who helped set the foundation for contemporary Hawaiian music. DJ was humble, kind and generous. A true gentle soul.
