Hace 4 días · Mitch Easter (near left) was R.E.M.'s producer until 1984, helping to define the band's early sound. The band members eventually dropped out of school to focus on their developing group.
Hace 2 días · When we were ready to make a record, Mitch Easter had become the go-to guy in North Carolina for recording and producing, due to the success of his work on those early R.E.M. records. His studio was only a couple of hours’ drive away in Winston Salem, and we were lucky enough to get him to do the record. It was another mind-blowing experience.
Hace 9 horas · A year or so later, I found myself driving out to Kernersville and Chapel Hill, NC, after the Nashville NAMM Show to photograph Mitch Easter and Chris Stamey for Tape Op, and had planned to cut out to the coast of North Carolina to try and surf.
Notably, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck was playing one at their first recording session with Mitch Easter, back when the band only had one single to their name. The good news is that many people really love the Rickenbacker (I was among them for a while), so there's no shortage of people who can tell you about all these little one-single bands who used it.
Hace 4 días · In 2017, they arrived at Fidelitorium Recordings in Kernersville, N.C., a facility owned by Mitch Easter, producer for R.E.M, among others. They were surprised to discover the plans their producer, three-time Grammy-winner Joe Henry, had for them.
