The Sealtest Village Store was a followup to the "Rudy Vallee Show" and premiered in 1943 with Joan Davis in the lead and Jack Haley taking over from Vallee as the male presence on the show. Davis carried the show so well, that she went on to her own solo series in mid-1945, leaving Haley to mind the store until he left in 1947.

Poor Dooley didn’t get to record it as a single, due to a musician’s strike in 1943. Hace 3 días · However, Rudy Vallee previously recorded the song in 1931 when it was featured in the Broadway musical "Everybody's Welcome". It charted at number 15 then. Upon its re-release in 1943, Vallee's version was number one for four weeks!
