After his death in 1978 (accidentally shot himself), Chicago became one of the lame-@$$-est bands on earth. They went from the grit of “25 or 6 to 4” and the beauty of songs like this to the Peter Cetera shlock show.
The song "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago is about trying to write a song in the middle of the night. The title refers to the time at which the song is set: 25 or 26 minutes before 4 a.m., phrased as "twenty-five or [twenty-]six [minutes] to four [o’clock]." Just realized the meaning of the lyrics recently, after 50 some years.
