The film stands as a great example of cinematic storytelling, where every frame is crafted to evoke a blend of beauty and tension.
Noel Coward, of all people, was a big fan of GT's stonefaced coldness during the drowning scene, citing it as excellent acting.. IMHO, the film can't make up its mind whether it's a DuMaurierish soap/suspenser or a noir, & tries to have it both ways (although the color ends any possibility it could be a true noir)
