I think the 90s film is more accurate to the book in a clinical sense, but I don't think that's a successful way to tell the Lolita story, if that makes sense. The book is (horrifically imo) called a romance, and has been called a romance since it's publishing, because the prose is beautiful, and Humbert (as the narrator) is smart and eloquent ...
