"Eli: Coming of Age in the Holocaust" (published 1980) or possibly "I Have Lived A Thousand Years: Growing Up in the Holocaust" (published 1997)? Both books are by Livia Bitton-Jackson and tell the same story, with mostly the same scenes. I think a few details from Eli were omitted for the later book, or maybe vice versa.
