Eliza Jumel (née Bowen; April 2, 1775 – July 16, 1865), also known as Eliza Burr, was a wealthy American socialite. She was married to Aaron Burr and their divorce was finalized on the day of his death.
The Life of Eliza Jumel. Eliza Jumel was born Eliza “Betsey” Bowen in a Providence, Rhode Island brothel, to Phebe Kelley Bowen on April 7, 1775. Her mother’s madam was a free Black woman, and Eliza grew up “in the life.”
