  6. COLYEAR, Sir DAVID, first Earl of Portmore (d. 1730), was the elder son of Sir Alexander Robertson, of the family of Strowan, Perthshire, who settled in Holland, where he acquired a considerable property, and adopted the name of Colyear.

  7. Sir David served King William of Orange in Ireland and for his service he was created Lord Portmore and Blackness [in 1699] and Earl of Portmore [in 1703]. He remained in service and became officer commanding in Scotland by 1710 and served in Flanders in 1712.
