Sir William Capel (c. 1446-1515) of Capel Court in the parish of St Bartholomew-by-the-Exchange in the City of London and of Hadham Hall in the parish of Little Hadham, Hertfordshire, served as Lord Mayor of London and as a Member of Parliament for the City of London.
Slaughter and May was founded on 1 January 1889 by William Capel Slaughter and William May. The firm's first office was located at 18 Austin Friars in the City of London. In 1974, the firm opened an office in Hong Kong, being the first London law firm to establish a presence there.
Capel was a keen sportsman, principally associated with fox-hunting and cricket. He played cricket as an amateur and made 1 known appearance in first-class cricket in 1808. His recorded career in significant matches ran from 1796 to 1809.

1 de jul. de 2021 · In January 1889, William Capel Slaughter and William May left the three-man partnership of Ashurst Morris Crisp, where they were working together as trainees, and set up their own shop in the City of London. Business at the firm they founded, Slaughter and May, seems to have ticked along quite nicely ever since.
