Serjeant Musgrave's Dance, An Un-historical Parable is a play by English playwright John Arden, written in 1959 and premiered at the Royal Court Theatre on October 22 of that year. In Arden's introductory note to the text, he describes it as "a realistic, but not a naturalistic" play.

Plot Summary. Serjeant Musgrave’s Dance is a 1959 play by British playwright John Arden. Considered by many to be Arden’s first important play, it tells the story of a group of 19th century British army deserters in a British mining town. Act I opens on a North England wharf in 1880.
