Sarah Elizabeth Tanner (May 18, 1840 — August 2, 1914) was active as a missionary worker and a religious leader in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was the wife of Benjamin Tucker Tanner .
Bishop Tanner and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Tanner had seven children, including Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859–1937), who became a noted painter, and Hallie Tanner Johnson, the first female physician to practice medicine in Alabama and who established the Nurses' School and Hospital at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.
