Esoteric Christianity is a mystical approach to Christianity which features "secret traditions" that require an initiation to learn or understand. The term esoteric was coined in the 17th century and derives from the Greek ἐσωτερικός ( esôterikos , "inner").
Esoteric Christianity (linked with the Hermetic Corpus since the Renaissance) is an ensemble of Christian theology which proposes that some spiritual doctrines of Christianity can only be understood by those who have undergone certain rites (such as baptism) within the religion.
Esoteric Christianity states that we must come to know God. Not only can we know God directly, not only can we comprehend the nature of God, but, moreover we must do that. That is the whole point of esoteric Christianity, to fully develop the soul.
Esoteric Christianity entails the exploration of secret teachings that have been passed down through mystical traditions. These teachings offer insights into the nature of reality, the soul, and the Divine that are not readily apparent in mainstream Christian doctrine.
