Black Oxen is a 1923 American silent fantasy / romantic drama film starring Corinne Griffith, Conway Tearle, and Clara Bow. Directed by Frank Lloyd , the film is based on the controversial best-selling 1923 novel of the same name by Gertrude Atherton .
Gertrude Franklin Horn Atherton (October 30, 1857 – June 14, 1948) was an American writer. [1] Many of her novels are set in her home state of California. Her bestselling novel Black Oxen (1923) was made into a silent movie of the same name.
Her controversial novel Black Oxen (1923), the story of a woman revitalized by hormone treatments and based on Atherton’s own experience, was her biggest popular success. Atherton wrote more than 40 novels in her long career, as well as many nonfiction works.
