(August 28, 2016) We are sad to inform SoulTrackers of the death, at age 66, of Edward “Dwight” Fields of The Manhattans. Fields appeared destined to be in music. His father, Johnny Fields, was a founding member of the legendary Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and he was the cousin of Manhattans lead singer Gerald Alston.
Dwight Fields. The Manhattans are an American popular R&B vocal group. Their songs "Kiss and Say Goodbye", recorded in 1976, and 1980's "Shining Star", both sold millions of copies. [1] The Manhattans have recorded 45 hits on the Billboard R&B Chart, including twelve top-10 R&B hits in the United States, starting in 1965. [2]

Edward Dwight Fields was born April 16, 1950 in Henderson, NC. Son of Mattie and the late Joh nn y Fields, one of the founding members of The Five Blind Boys of Alabama. Dwight and Gerald Alston are first cousins and grew up together.
