Hace 2 días · The origins of the blues are poorly documented. Blues developed in the southern United States after the American Civil War (1861–65). It was influenced by work songs and field hollers, minstrel show music, ragtime, church music, and the folk and popular music of the white population.

The early development of blues music was characterized by its unique structure, featuring a twelve-bar format and call-and-response pattern. Its deeply emotional lyrics expressed hardship, sorrow, and longing. Key Artists and Their Contributions. The 1920s saw the rise of several key blues artists who would leave an indelible mark on the genre.
The standard 12-bar blues form is noted in uncorroborated oral histories as appearing communities throughout the region along the lower Mississippi River during the decade of the 1900s (and performed in New Orleans at least since 1908). One of these early sites of blues evolution was along Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.
