The Sex Pistols' Glen Matlock and The Ruts' Seggs both feature on bass. Long Shot Novena saw Rose experimenting with sequencing and drum programming for the first time. The UK's Daily Mirror newspaper described the album's sound as "spit 'n' sawdust country filtered through the Velvet Underground". [6]

'Wheels Going By' is a slack-jawed and insouciant hymn to the pleasures of ridin' the rails, like some long-gone drifter; it's clackety-clack rhythms mirroring the motion of the boxcars.
The follow up, 2002’s “Long Shot Novena” - which features members of Del Amitri, legendary British punk band The Ruts and sometime Sex Pistol Glen Matlock - was even more rapturously received. The Times found it “stunning”, while Uncut marveled at the “rare power, polish and perception”.
