Robert " Parsley " Peel (1723 – 12 September 1795) was a British cotton mill owner and grandfather to Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet, future prime minister of the United Kingdom. Peel started life as a yeoman farmer but experimented with calico printing, eventually creating a parsley leaf pattern which would become his trademark.
His innovation and energy set the Peel dynasty on the path to fortune and fame. In 1794, Parsley Peel obtained the grant of a coat of arms which include a shuttle held by a lion, a bee signifying business and the family motto Industria, meaning industrious, hard working.
The fortunes of the Peele family rose dramatically with Robert Peel (1723 - 12 September 1795). Commonly known as Parsley Peel, Robert was an influential cotton mill owner and grandfather to Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet, future prime minister of Great Britain.

Robert Peel supplemented his farming income with weaving. He invented ways to print patterns onto the finished cloth. His first design was a parsley leaf and this gave him his nickname of “Parsley Peel.”

Their earliest success was the production of a simple parsley leaf design from which Robert Peel earned his trade nickname, "Parsley" Peel. Also, a neighbour, John Kay , invented the flying shuttle. Robert inherited Peel Fold.
