My Favorite Things is a studio album by the jazz musician John Coltrane. It was released in March 1961 on Atlantic Records. [1] [2] It was the first album to feature Coltrane playing soprano saxophone. An edited version of the title track became a hit single that gained popularity in 1961 on radio. [3] The record became a major commercial success.
Elvin Ray Jones (September 9, 1927 – May 18, 2004) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. [1] . Most famously a member of John Coltrane 's quartet, with whom he recorded from late 1960 to late 1965, Jones appeared on such albums as My Favorite Things, A Love Supreme, Ascension and Live at Birdland.
Throughout Crescent, the language of the classic Coltrane quartet—which includes pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones—is so refined, you get moments like the telepathic tempo decision that occurs after the main melody of “Wise One.”
