Funky Kings. Formed in 1976 for Clive Davis's Arista Records, Funky Kings was an odd teaming of a funk rhythm section with country rock singer-songwriters and musicians-- Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin ("Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Already Gone"), Jules Shear, and Richard Stekol, with pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz.

He made his first appearance on vinyl with Funky Kings (along with two other songwriters, Jack Tempchin and Richard Stekol). After their second album was rejected by the record label (Arista), he formed a new band, the critically acclaimed (but commercially unsuccessful) pop group, Jules and the Polar Bears . [1]
