    Characters and Onomastic Significances

    1. Captain Phillip Ransom: Ransom's name refers to Dr. Elwin Ransom, the hero of C.S. Lewis's space trilogy -- Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength -- which, like "The Island of Dr. Death," was inspired in part by the works of H.G. Wells.

Why does Mrs Babcock call her house The House of 31 February?
Why is it that when Tackie takes Captain Ransom's hand he becomes taller and older, but not when he meets Dr Death?
Why does Dr Death describe the book as a novel?
