John Singleton Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst, PC, QS, FRS (21 May 1772 – 12 October 1863) was a British lawyer and politician. He was three times Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain.
His later years were less successful, and he died heavily in debt. He was father of John Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst.

Biography. John Singleton Copley (1772-1863), Baron Lyndhurst, politician and lord chancellor, was born at Beacon Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, before the American War of Independence. Educated at a private school, Manor House, in Chiswick, Copley entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1790.
