Naglfar nació en el año de 1992 con Jens Rydén como vocalista y guitarrista, y Kristoffer Olivius, en el bajo. La banda tuvo su primera alineación completa cuando apareció Ulf Andersson de Nocturnal Rites en la batería, y Morgan Hansson y Fredrik Degerström en las guitarras.
As Jens Rydén wanted to focus on vocals only, guitarists Morgan Hansson and Fredrik Degerström also joined the band. However, Fredrik Degerström was asked leave because of different personal and musical opinions. He was replaced by Andreas Nilsson and then the band changed name to Naglfar.

En ese tiempo la banda se dedicaba a escribir y grabar su primera demo en Garageland Studio, titulada « Stellae Trajectio «. La demo se lanzó en noviembre de 1994.

Fredrik Degerström has been listed as a former member of Guillotine, but Fredrik Mannberg has stated in interviews that he was never really a full-fledged band member, but merely a tryout applicant as a vocalist.
