The published (Burkhardt et al. 1985–2022) and online letters, with extensive supportive material, provide an amazing panorama of the Victorian world, so much so that scholars have been able to set Darwin and his Origin of Species (C. Darwin 1859 ) much more accurately in scientific and social context and can reveal him as one actor among many.
