General Sir William Henry Clinton GCB KCH (23 December 1769 – 15 February 1846) was a British general during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars as well as the First Miguelist War. He was also the grandson of Admiral George Clinton and elder brother of Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton. [1]

General Sir Henry Clinton, KB (16 April 1730 – 23 December 1795) was a British Army officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1772 and 1795. He is best known for his service as a general during the American War of Independence.
Sir Henry Clinton succeeded Major General Sir William Howe as commander-in-chief of the British army in America in May 1778 after serving three years under Howe and, before him, under Major General Thomas Gage.
Clinton rallied troops and sent reinforcements to attack the Continental Army’s position during the Battle of Bunker Hill and helped secure a British victory. In 1776, he accompanied a failed British mission to capture Charleston and offset that loss with two successful campaigns in New York and Long Island .
In 1775, grief-stricken by the early death of his wife, he accepted the post of third in command of the British forces in North America. By the winter of 1777-1778, Sir Henry had become Commander-in-Chief of the British army in North America.
