Dexter Gordon (February 27, 1923 – April 25, 1990) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. He was among the most influential early bebop musicians. Gordon's height was 6 feet 6 inches (198 cm), so he was also known as "Long Tall Dexter" and "Sophisticated Giant".

25 de abr. de 1990 · Through his trend setting work in the 1940s and due to the pervasiveness of his influence on his instrument, Dexter Gordon was regarded as the world’s first bebop tenor saxophonist. Key among his descendants were two of the major iconic saxophonists of the twentieth century, John Coltrane and 2011 Kennedy Center Honoree, Sonny Rollins.
