Das Collegium illustre in Tübingen war ab 1559 ein herzogliche Hofschule, von 1594 bis 1596 eine Hohe Schule und von 1596 bis 1688 eine Ritterakademie für junge Adelige.
Until its temporary closure in 1628 due to the Thirty Years War, the Collegium Illustre had been the favorite academy of the protestant aristocracy at home and abroad with an enormous attraction up to Scandinavia, Poland, Hungary and the countries under Habsburg rule.

En 1588-92 se construyó el Collegium Illustre, una de las primeras academias para nobles del ámbito germánico. La institución, que adoptó el ideario humanista, fue pionera en la enseñanza de disciplinas nuevas, como la política, las ciencias naturales o las lenguas extranjeras.
