  4. Welcome to University College! University College, known lovingly as “Castle,” is the oldest of Durham University’s Colleges. Castle is a special community filled with inspiring learning opportunities, engaging social activities and meaningful personal support.

  5. Durham University has 17 colleges, of which University College is the oldest, founded in 1832. The newest college is South, founded in 2020. The last single-sex college, St Mary's, became mixed in 2005 with the admittance of male undergraduates.
