11 de oct. de 2022 · As well as playing a fancy concert grand piano during her shows, Levisohn bought Atwell a beat-up upright piano dubbed "my other piano", bought for just 50 shillings. In 1952 she released 'Cross Hands Boogie', but it was her version of 1908 tune 'Black and White Rag' on the flipside that cemented her superstar status.

Winifred Atwell made her name mainly from popular music but, as she continued to show in her stage act, she was also well-versed in standard classical repertoire. Soon after her arrival in Britain, she began taking piano lessons with Harold Craxton (1885 – 1971), a well-respected teacher at the Royal Academy of Music and sought-after accompanist.
