Robert Hartley Elliott (born 8 December 1941) [1] is an English rock drummer, best known for playing with the Hollies. He has been described as "one of the very finest drummers in all of pop/rock". [2] Early life. Elliott discovered jazz music when he was around 10 or 11 and wanted to become a drummer. [3] . He attended Nelson Grammar School.

Whilst at Nelson Grammar School, Elliott paid the princely sum of £2 for his first real snare drum: "Complete with sticks and brushes". "The following year I borrowed £60 from my Dad to buy a second-hand Premier set, which I later traded in for some new ruby pearl Trixon drums from Barratts of Manchester”.

Like the Stones, the Who and the Searchers, the Hollies are one of the few groups to have continued touring uninterrupted for more than 50 years. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 "I've got my Hall of Fame statue," Elliott says.
