Iain Moncreiffe. Sir Rupert Iain Kay Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 11th Baronet, CVO, QC, FSA Scot (9 April 1919 – 27 February 1985), Chief of Clan Moncreiffe, was a British Officer of Arms, historian and genealogist. Sir Iain Moncreiffe, Unicorn Pursuivant of Arms, and later Albany Herald, is now best remembered as the writer of one of the most popular and successful books ever written in English on heraldry, namely his Simple Heraldry (1953), “cheerfully illustrated” by Don Pottinger, and also for his The Highland Clans (1967).

Sir Iain Moncreiffe of the Ilk also inherited his title and lands from a kinsman, and was Albany Herald at the court of the Lord Lyon. In 1946, he married the only child of the 22nd Earl of Erroll, who had become a Countess in her own right.
