George Axelrod (June 9, 1922 – June 21, 2003) was an American screenwriter, producer, playwright and film director, best known for his play The Seven Year Itch (1952), which was adapted into a film of the same name starring Marilyn Monroe.

22 de jun. de 2003 · George Axelrod, the writer perhaps best known for his witty examinations of 1950s social mores, most notably in his play “The Seven Year Itch,” died Saturday morning at his home in Los Angeles.
Axelrod wrote his first script for Hollywood, 1954’s “Phffft!,” which featured Jack Lemmon and Judy Holliday as a divorced couple. The Seven Year Itch was turned into a film in 1955, with Ewell reprising his role opposite Marilyn Monroe.
