William Butler Yeats /jeɪts/ (Dublín, 13 de junio de 1865-Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Francia, 28 de enero de 1939) fue un poeta y dramaturgo irlandés. Siempre interesado en el misticismo y esoterismo, fue una de las figuras más representativas del renacimiento literario irlandés y uno de los fundadores del Abbey Theatre .

William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939) was an Irish poet, dramatist and writer, and one of the foremost figures of 20th-century literature. He was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival, and along with Lady Gregory founded the Abbey Theatre, serving as its chief during its early years.
Biografía de William Butler Yeats. Escritor, poeta y dramaturgo irlandés, William Butler Yeats estudió Pintura en la Escuela Metropolitana de Arte de Dublín, aunque es conocido por sus poemas, obras de teatro y relatos que le llevaron a ser galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1923.
Visionario y anticientífico, lee con fruición a William Blake, a Swedenborg, a los neoplatónicos y se interesa por la alquimia. En 1889 conoce a su musa Maud Gonne –que le procuraría tanto fervor como grandes disgustos– y en 1896 a Augusta Lady Gregory, una aristócrata enamorada de los relatos tradicionales irlandeses.
William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. He belonged to the Protestant, Anglo-Irish minority that had controlled the economic, political, social, and cultural life of Ireland since at least the end of the 17th century.
Biographical. William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was born in Dublin. His father was a lawyer and a well-known portrait painter. Yeats was educated in London and in Dublin, but he spent his summers in the west of Ireland in the family’s summer house at Connaught.
